Pieter Cornelis "Piet" Mondrian, after 1906 Mondrian, was a Dutch painter. Mondrian was a contributor to the De Stijl art movement and group, which was founded by Theo van Doesburg. He evolved a non-representational form which he termed neoplasticism. This consisted of a neutral ground, upon which he painted a grid of vertical and horizontal black lines mixed with three primary colors. It is this extraordnary approach to design that combined with the uber popular use of celadon or "institutional green" as it is referred to in more modern times...showcase the perfect juxtaposition of pattern and use of color...this brilliant rare design is aptly named "Design Viewpoint" and signed like that of a movie star.
This offering is for ONE YARD x 49 inches wide of a never used original old stock barkcloth...I have 10YDS available being sold by the yard...the color on this atomic geometric mod specimen is true to photos...but just in case let me tell you what I see...minty green...celadon...institutional green...so sophisticated mid century moderne...fabulous intoxicating tangerine orange that borders fluorescent...avocado lime...dusty laurel green gray...lighter creamier minty greens with stark black and white accents. This one definitely floats my boat! The atomic...geometric style of the 50's was taking shape meshing with historic danish modern elements coming out of Scandinavian countries as well as merging with American designs such as Heywood Wakefield...designs that together defined a movement of mid century modernism that was sweeping the nation...it is a highly unusual experience to come across this great vintage eye candy cut from its original bolt...unused...unwashed original old stock textured barkcloth...signed "Pattern Viewpoint Guaranteed to be Vat Prints"...lots of joy to bring to any mid century life...
