By the 1940's and the post Art Deco era...variations of deco were being morphed into more abstract mid century styles...more modern abstractions of florals were being introduced on atomic plaids such as this swank beauty...designers were clamoring for a "look"...one that exuded Deco...Atomic...Abstract Biomorphism...in colors that were compatible with the vibe of South Beach circa 1948. It was a look for sure...one that touched the hearts and minds of tourists who went back home dreaming of the fabrics they were going to use for their new living room decor...after all before the age of the internet...and the innovation of hybrid television and commercials up the wazzooo...tourism was a great way to sell...and the hotels of South Beach did just that!
This offering is for ONE YARD x 49 inches wide of unused...unwashed fabulous thick and nubby barkcloth...I have 4YDS available being sold by the yard...one of the more heavy upholstery textures...you can imagine a chartreuse or lime vinyl bankette in a Ocean Drive lobby with this fabric as its cushion back!! This wonder of SWANK boasts a colorway that has all the boxes ticked when it comes to creating a deco Floridian look...the use of citrus chartreuse yellow and limes...tangerine and blood oranges...radiant turquoise teal lime...dark chocolate... and fabulous dove gray...the plaid if you look closely have a abstract look themselves with a brushed on sort of style of printing that just adds to this historic textile. This fabric is off the bolt and in brand new 1948 condition. There is a signature on the selvedge...however some of the writing didn't print visibly. It is a "Waverly Bonded Fabric" and the rest I will update this listing as I have another bolt of this in turquoise and lime I need to dig up! Expecr fabulous.
