These neoclassical shabby chic vintage patterns have so much inspiration from the main neoclassical movement that coincided with the 18th-century Age of Enlightenment...and continued into the early 19th century...laterally competing with romanticism...in architecture...the style continued throughout the 19th and 20th centuries...right up through the cottage style craze of the 30's and 40's...designs evolving with color and style a tad bit deviant of what a traditional neoclassical textile of older periods might exude...instead its as if greek neoclassical and english garden came had textile babies...and the era of some of the most romantic and heart touching patterns were born...and of course Design Athens is one that was named for the city of Athens, Greece...it is one of the more collectible of patterns...seldom seen...revered for its large lifelike scrolls and curls that look like the concrete reliefs on the sides of old buildings...and VOILA cabbage roses thrown in...it is these wonderful elements of time and eclecticism that really make these textiles showcase as fabulously today as they did in yesteryear...except today they appeal mostly to a very select group of earthlings that are usually softer souls on this planet...who have a nostalgic and sentimental nature to them...and designers who encourage the use of "green" unusual and vintage elements for magazine shoots...
