Miami Beach royalty...it is one of the more popular draperies and textiles used for the boutique hotels of the 30's and 40's...especially in places like South Beach Miami...where I had the honor and privilege of seeing these draperies still hung in premier rooms and suites...most with original terazzo floors and even while many of the hotels were boarded up...they still remained nearly the same inside as when they were first sealed up...certainly vagrants made their way in...and some even called it their home as there was no one keeping a watchful eye on the hotels as by the 80's South Beach was more renowned for being like "Beirut by the sea" a city in ruins...I had the privilege of seeing original barkcloth club chairs bedecked in this pattern...coordinated with SWANK velvets and mohairs of the time...furniture accessorized by sophisticated fringe work and had carved wooden legs...these were the times to be living...I look at our world today and I can say without reservation that I wish I was alive to live and breath being a Miami Beach citizen 80+ years ago...I just know my soul was not born for today...but for yesteryear...
This offering is for ONE YARD x 49 inches wide of pure barkcloth deliciousness...I have 4YDS available sold by the yard...never used original old stock and get it tells the whole story of its life...its protection from me for the last 30 something years...this unused old stock yardage comes from the Colony Hotel on Ocean Drive...it was part of a bolt found in a closet near the reception desk...it was the partial bolt of what was used for draperies for the rooms on the higher floors that were deemed more premier and expensive for tourists...I carried that bolt around for decades and used it for pillows for my "Tropical at Heart Collection" of pillows I brought back to South Beach in the 21st century at shows in Miami Beach...these icons are guaranteed to release serotonin to the mind of every old soul...expect FLAWLESS...inspirational and transportive back in time.
