I've have been bestowed a collection by a wonderful collector...I am just starting to sort through this massive shipment...there are all kinds of rare tropical and floral prints...Hawaiiana...cottage floral and just lots of interesting treasures...the former collector...a friend for 20 years kept her collection immaculate...it was coveted by her and now by me as I help transition these beauties to the rightful owner!
This offering is for ONE extremely rare Miami Beach style drapery panel...I have 4 available sold individually...a gorgoeus true coral pinky orange...in a bamboo lattice screen of huge banana leaves...this pattern is the sister print to another pattern called "Singapore Leaf"...certainly one of the more rare of these iconic tropical prints to come along in a long time...they remind me of my friend Alexander who lived in South Beach since the 40's when he was in his early 20's...he had one apartment all that time...filled with huge hawaiian chalkware lamps with tropical barkcloth sombrero shades...collections of McCoy pottery...huge barkcloth and velvet sofas and chairs and the most grand floor to ceiling draperies in banana leaf prints...Alexander was as iconic to Miami Beach as these draperies...he has long passed...but his legacy is kept in my heart and memory...and every once in a while I lay falling asleep and transport myself into dream land where I'm sipping ioed tea as Alexander sipped bourbon...surrounded by his things...the things that become tangible remains of who special people were to us. These draperies are a thick and nubby traditional cotton barkcloth...with huge chartreuse...golden yellow and fatique dark and creamy limes...a pale citron mint...on a lattice of coral pinky orange...creamiest dove gray...with dark rustic blood orange/dark pink red...with white...charcoal and dark chocolate accents. Measures 42/44 inches wide x 90/92 inches long...these are lined with the original lining that shows just how little these were used...its in immaculate shape...the last owner removed the pleats and hung them with ring clips. These are so strong...colorful...no stains...wear...dry rot...just a stellar example of Art Drco meets Mid Century tropical Miami Beach...Hawaiiana...Los Angeles...Palm Springs chic.
