Mid Century Bonsai Trees Barkcloth Vintage Fabric Orig Old Stock 1950's Japanese Home

Bonsai is a Japanese art form using cultivation techniques to produce, in containers, small trees that mimic the shape and scale of full size trees. Similar practices exist in other cultures, including the Chinese tradition of penzai or penjing from which the art originated, and the miniature living landscapes of Vietnamese. The Japanese tradition dates back over a thousand years. And in the 1950's there was a rebirth of Bonsai in the Mid Century Design elements that were congruent with the idea of bringing the outdoors inside. What people didn't expect was textiles being designed as part of the modernist movement that jived with Japanese modern. You could imagine this fabric as draperies adding spunk and pops of color...or today framed as a large piece of art...a table covering...pillows and upholstery projects for that special chair.

This offering is for ONE unused 1950's remnant of thick and nubby barkcloth...original old stock never used barkcloth...the newness of this fabric transports me back in time to write this listing...the colors are simply DIVINE! A crazy fab citron yellow...dark emerald turquoise...dove gray...chocolate...shell pink and white with black accents. Measures 48 inches wide x 58 inches long...washd to freshen...this piece is brand new 1950's vintage...the colors are extraordinarily gorgeous and bold...this piece is FLAWLESS.
