Doing the Miami Beach shows you meet some very interesting and fabulous people...the friends I've made over the years...the cast of characters...some passed and some still remain...are etched forever my my heart...such was Delia Milan...she epitomized everything Miami Beach...she wore fabulous beach bathing caps with feathers as she walked with her walker...complete with orange tennis balls on the canes...baubles from head to tow...I called her clunky...because everything she wore was clunky...her clunky clip on earrings...neckless and multi layers of clunky bracelets...everyone knew her...she was friends with my friend Alexander...who way back when was in his late 70's and has long past...Delia and Alexander has a love hate relationship...some competition between them with yard saling that created some bad blood...but under it all she missed Alexander so much...over the years she would bring me her finds to hawk...I didn't know what she was going to bring...sometimes fabulous chalkware harlequin lamps...or a tacky Florida conch shell and flamingo tv lamp...but she always knew I was in hot pursuit of barkcloth...Alexander and I were thick as thieves combing hotel after hotel by day and sit and people watch on Ocean Drive at night with our can of mace...it was Delia who first brought me this pattern and colorway...it must have been 2006...it was a partial bolt that I used all of it to cover headboards at the old Hotel Shelley...it's been a while since I've found more...its a tad bit as if my sweet Delia came for a visit...enjoy my picture show.
This offering is for ONE YARD x 36 inches wide of unused original old stock barkcloth,,,thick and nubby as we all adore...boldly brightly colored...colors so brilliant and iconic to the designs of South Beach...butterflies are among the very most collectible of the barkcloth collectables...good to just have folded in your collection as a future investment...or made into pillows or upcycled handbags...you are sure to be captivated with the design inspiration of everything about this design...the BUTTERFLIES...the HYDRANGEAS...the perfect way the artist used their mind...bringing together a tropical candy colored kaleidoscope of magnificence on cotton...butterflies in magenta pink...darkest chocolate and bubble gum pink...hydrangeas and foliage in chartreuse...jadeite...dark jadeite...and deepest darkest emerald turquoise greens...with white accents...on a true crisp...bright and beautiful ecru cream off white ground...this is original old stock yardage...it is in original brand new condition to the 1930's when it was made...not to be found anywhere else in the world.
