In the height of the Martha years...yes darlings circa 1989...I was sipping iced tea with a twist of lemon from my sun tea jug...while sitting on my covered front porch of my 450 sq foot 1800's beach bungalow in this funky town called Ocean Grove New Jersey...a quaint seaside Victorian town...it was whacky...in a ummm...crazy and fun way...at the time it was one of those towns that was affected by urban flight of the 60's...the Victorian hotels no longer attracting the family vacation crowd...forcing owners to turn them into half way houses in order to make money...it is where I chose to live there...I could never live in normalcy...I needed a bit of excitement of sirens and maybe some inappropriate laughter at passersby...it was as if my life in this teensy little shotgun shack of perfectly manicured flower beds...bright yellow awnings and statuary just about everywhere...was plopped right smack in the middle of a mental institution...I think one time I remember someone who I perceived as normal walk by once...but there I sat rocking back and forth on my colorful french cut metal glider...sipping iced tea from my ball jar with a twist a lemon...Enya gently spilling from inside...with candles lit and my newspaper...thinkin I was in the Hamptons or sometin!
