I've been fortunate enough to grow up with old house influence...I was raised in more of a 70's suburban neighborhood that I couldn't wait to leave and move into old historic houses...with Victorians and a cottage romance about it that I craved...if it wasn't for my pop pop and nanas old cottage on South Street...I'd maybe never been introduced to the drug of vintage old things...it may have taken me some 40 years to figure it all out through loss and mourning that it wasn't really the vintage "things" I was so much after...it was what those vintage things did to evoke memories of my great grandparents...who took my mother in and raised her from a neglectful mother...it were these grandparents that were my own...and while nana has already passed before I was ever born...I knew her...yes...I knew her...she was everywhere in that house...she was in every sentimental story my mother ever spoke...and while pop pop passed when I was only 7...many would say how could I possibly remember such things...well...I am different...I experience things much more profoundly and sensitively than most...by the time we lost pop I had experienced enough of that cottage on South Street in the sweet beach side community of Brielle, New Jersey...I had breathed the drug of love...care...and a man obsessed with his grandchildren...he lived for us...he was a gardener...he raised birds...he had old Chihuahuas...he would stop strangers on the street with little ones and pull some coins from his pocket and say "go buy yourself some ice cream"...he was not ordinary...and neither was I...I have memories going back as far as two years old...I remember poignant times...rides in his old Studebaker...I especially remember so many fragrances that every once in a while travel through the air and is gone before I can catch another whiff...this home...those things...those lives lost...impacted my life...and through my whole entire childhood I sought that refuge of that old house on South Street that was my medicine...and today I continually seek to recreate the kind of love I learned from that sweet sanctuary...whether it be the vintage barkcloth that adorned the windows and nanas old blue floral chair she sat each night and made her crazy quilts and knitted her blankets...or McCoy pottery that was on every shelf...or the picket fence like encased...fortress like gardens pop created surrounding his home...I have managed for my whole adult life to recreate that life for myself...and somehow...yes somehow...that just makes my time on earth a tad bit sweeter...

This offering if for ONE very truly special vintage barkcloth...it was a drapery panel and is now a deconstructed remnant that has been washed and is in the kind of condition as when it was made in the 1930's...I have another exact match also available...ask me if you are interested in having us make you a fully functional drapery panel and line it...we do all customizations. Measures 48 inches wide x 86 inches long...the thickest and nubbiest of all the barkcloth patterns...and definitely one of the MOST rare of patterns and colorways that fetch thousands at textile shows...the YELLOW ground is so RARE...so never seen anymore...it has been at least since the 90's that I have even seen this colorway at the markets and shows...it has a neoclassical allure...a old Hollywood romantic-ness that surely taps most every heart...if you are a collector...a lover of these rare specimens that through the power of good storage...are still around in the kind of condition as when they were made so many years ago...so if you are an old soul like me...someone maybe a tad different than the rest...who experiences things more profoundly...that creates their home in such a way that feeds and nourishes their souls...this one if it were thousands more...would be worth the time spent with it...with what time we have left on this earth...
