The 1960's posed a significant threat to he fanciful and colorful 50's...a slight departure from the FUN kind of kitsch that the 50's became celebrated...1950's architecture and design was a revolutionary decade marked by a dramatic formal invention and a celebration of color....windows were maximized for the ultimate experience of bringing the outside inside...floor to ceiling aluminum windows became the futuristic way of viewing the out of doors...conversation areas of sleek modern furnishings arranged for the outdoor views...a type of living that was a departure from what people knew life to be living contained in downtowns...the late 50's became a major boom in bridge building which then made leaving downtown living something exciting...the 1960's was all about family expansion...mass production from the machine inventions allowed a baby boom that would usher in a climate of home building this country had never seen...master bedroom suites...in house laundry facilities...sunken living rooms...built in koi ponds and planters...and lots and lots of sliding doors and wonderful straight lines that made a modern 60's ranch all the rage...but these terrific homes would be nothing without the designer flair of wonderful textiles to enliven and enlighten the home...bold colors mixed with natural stones and woods became the canvas for which to accessorize with a period outrageously fabulous textile...so whether it was the 30's. 40's, 50's or the 1960's...color...design and textiles were steadily impressing home owners and house guests along the way...

This offering is for ONE YARD x 50 inches wide of a TOTAL SURFER PAD! I have 5YDS available being sold by the yard. A level of sophistication UNPARALLELED! Perhaps one of the very coolest textiles from likely the late 50's heading right for the 1960's...I think I've done it justice photographed in my sunken living room on the slate floor of my own mid century ranch...I am selling this rarest of them all fabric BY THE YARD...so buy one yard or as many as you need...What is pleasing rare about this specimen is not just its stunning modern design of lines...color blocks and watery movement...but the colorway is just one that us collectors wait for years...often decades to come across...because along with it comes a significance and historical perspective that makes it a living piece of history right before my eyes and flowing through my hands...with a colorway that is second to none...true bright and bold turquoise blue...medium gray...with lots of black and white...a smooth heavy weight texture...upholstery grade for sure and completely suitable for drapery and pillows...not nubby like barkcloth...but of that era of fabulousness...one I think I will keep as long as I can folded handsomely on my textile collection wall so every once in a while I can gander over and see its pure beauty
