The 1920's was really the start of vintage drapery exuberance as we know it...prior to that was what our grandmothers knew as cretonne...which was a lighter not heavily textured version of barkcloth...but the 20's kickstarted what we have come to know as Cottage Style or Shabby Chic...the use of beautiful roses and ostrich feathers is testament to a french inspiration that was popular in the french victorian period of the 1800's...being reproduced by american designers in the 1920's for the wealthy aristocrats pre depression.
This offering is for ONE very fabulous early Waverly Bonded Fabrics yardage...I have TWO available sold individually. A very special and was one of the first extraordinary patterns made by Waverly who started printing this brand in 1926. A intoxication for sure in this pattern and colorway...a cocoa pink...mocha pink-esque...one of those beautiful colors that could be brought to life in a pink space or a chocolate space...a smooth everglaze fabric with intoxicating designs that were the early palpable fabrics created in Miami’s South Beach neighborhood hotels...mixed with glammy heavy velvets and rayons...brocades and damasks...it was all about florals...draping swags and ostrich feathers. If you love chartreuse then this one won’t disappoint...dark olive...deep dark teal...eggplant...merlot...soft lavender purples...bold jadeite green...with white accents. Signed “A Waverly Bonded Fabric Regency”. Measures 36 inches wide x 98 inches long. This is mostly unused yardage...it had hems on the edges that I removed and ironed out. Would make swank draperies with dopamine climactic explosion abilities you can’t buy with new. Enjoy these wonderful rare beautiful experiences of these ingratiating flirty wonders. Flawless.
