The art of BIOMORPHISM... which models artistic design elements on naturally occurring patterns or shapes reminiscent of nature and living organisms...taken to its extreme it attempts to force naturally occurring shapes onto functional devices...the term was coined by the British writer Geoffrey Grigson and subsequently used by Alfred H. Barr in the context of his 1936 exhibition Cubism and Abstract Art. Biomorphist art focuses on the power of natural life and uses organic shapes...with shapeless and vaguely spherical hints of the forms of biology...Biomorphism has connections with Surrealism and Art Nouveau. Henry Matissue's seminal painting Le Bonheur De Vivre (The joy of Life)...from 1905 can be cited as an important precedent.
This offering is for ONE YARD x 48 inches wide of unused unwashed original 1940’s yardage. I have 10YDS available sold by the yard...the more you buy the more continuous yardage you’ll receive. A acrylic acetate rayon mix fabric...very slinky and drapery weight...no stretch...exactly what you would have seen as draperies in the late 40’s as gold metallics and atomics were beginning to make their way into the 1950’s...this yardage I’d say is from 1948 and exactly the futuristic depiction of what a mid century room would be bedecked. Lots of graphic architectural geometric squares filled with gold metallic...juxtaposed to a biomorphic approach...A eggshell cream ground with mocha brown....maroon red...creamy fennel green with black lines and accents. Signed “A Riverdale Fabric Sycamore”. Perfect for redecorating and incorporating original vintage textiles that give spaces more heart. Or a movie set would really benefit from this sweet yardage. Glammy...Luxe...Biomorphic...Mid Century...greatness. Flawless.
