It is as if it were just yesterday it was a hot summer day in South Beach...around 1989...of course South Beach was forbidden territory and off limits due to blight and crime...drugs...the old hotels broken down and most boarded up or turned into half way houses and low income rooming houses for seniors...there were homeless camps on the beachfront and a odor of mildew coming from boarded up hotels...that distinctive odor of blight...when humans no longer inhabit a space...something sinister takes over...graffiti covered the art deco marquees and stucco decorative reliefs of dolphins and seahorses...but inside some of these boarded up rotting buildings were well preserved hotels in somewhat original condition or at least a hodge podge of periods from the 30's to the 60's...the Winter Haven comes to mind...it was an exclusive hotel when it was built in the late 1930's...the interior motifs were nautical...reflecting the romance of ocean liners in their blend of high-tech...modern materials...such as terrazzo flooring...glass blocks...chrome finished railings and neon lighting...the Winter Haven’s signature double height lobby reflected concepts such as a grand cruise ship-inspired staircase...glass tile fireplaces...sunken bars and walls of glass to the Ocean Drive and the sea across the street...to see it now in its revitalized glory is almost spiritual having seen walked those halls and rooms some 30 years ago...it is amazing how well preserved it was over all those decades...it is these memories I fall asleep to at night...I slip into memory mode...and South Beach always hits the spot! To this day I continue to be inspired by patterns I find that remind me of my jaunts...a time...a place...a history...that can never be again...

This offering is for ONE ready to hang drapery panel...a definite South Beach favorite...I have FOUR available sold individually...these are extremely rare in pattern and especially colorway...a very fabulous minty green ground...with bright coral pink and dark raspberry hibiscus...flanked by huge fan palms in brilliant shades of emerald turquoise...dusty laurel meets dark minty green...a striking shades of powder blues...with a touch of chocolate......bamboo stalks in golden chartreuse...creamy banana yellow...with white accents...a traditional thick and nubby 1930's barkcloth...the kind we are all in hot pursuit! Measures 42 inches wide x 70 inches long...with a 2 inch hem...washed and ironed...and in truly FLAWLESS condition in pretty much unused condition.
