A nebula is a giant cloud of dust and gas in space. Some nebulae (more than one nebula) come from the gas and dust thrown out by the explosion of a dying star, such as a supernova. Other nebulae are regions where new stars are beginning to form. The use of gold metallic LUREX is historically significant in how these vintage textiles tell a story...the story of design innovation and historical data that was happening simultaneously that inspired designers to create movements of design...textiles with a flair that reflected the times...and for the 50's that innovation and inspiration was space and science that inspired brilliance with shapes and textures and one very special application...the use of metallics on fabrics...it is as if someone circa 1955 could infuse the dreams of space and the embolden...invigorate and galvanize an energy inside the home...Lurex is a prized mid century invention used in upholstery home textiles as well as garments...it as an edge of bold modernism that still today resonates with mid century enthusiasts who carry a torch for the 1950's. It is called "Design Nebula" as the original tag was still on the bolt.
This offering is for ONE YARD x 49 wide of a never been used authentic piece of mid century moderne...Space Age...Atomic...Boomerang...Caldor-esque...barkcloth fabric...I have 8YDS available being sold by the yard! The colors are fantastic...bright and completely bold and striking...the bolt this was on had the original label naming it "Design Nebula"...which is a cloud of gas and dust in outer space, visible in the night sky either as an indistinct bright patch or as a dark silhouette against other luminous matter. Lots of handsome dark chocolate...milky chocolate and cocoa browns...pops of creamy jadite lime...canary yellow...chartreuse...and fire orange red...on a mottled chino ground with a trendy gold metallic lurex threading that really helps solidify the time line of this innovative barkcloth...this is a never been used piece of yardage...still on the original bolt...very designer worthy for tons of fabulous pillows...ironed and in never been used condition...still stiff with sizing as if showroom circa 1955...a Florida Bungalow treasure...just waiting to be brought back to life!
