Florida Bungalow was one of the first innovators to create huge quality dramatic and flamboyant pillows for 30 something years. I am known for the antique shows and textile shows throughout the country and especially Miami Beach. I have a unusual creative eye that conjures up unique and precious pieces of vintage art by todays standards. So let us transport you back to a time and place far from today in a world of everlasting nostalgia and whimsy.
This offering is for ONE barkcloth pillow cover WITH INSERT. These bird designs seldom leave my collection...on purpose! I have cherished these textiles as bolts and remnants from my past...a memory and lineage of collecting...the pursuit of the barkcloth and the stories of acquiring it...so it is a special time when I am willing to share...despite the expense to you...its worth a million dollar to me :) A unused textured nubby barkcloth...from the 1930's and part of a bolt I salvaged from a closed for decades fabric store in what is now the Miami Beach Design District. I brought the entire store of contents! I had a certain vision in mind for this beaut...I wanted to make it as big as possible and thought it would be iconic as the back cushion to a old rattan chair. It could be used as a large pillow of course...but what drama for a piece of furniture. Loads of jadeite and deep dark teals...charcoal and dove grays...lemon yellow and tangerine...cobalt blue...with white accents. Paired with a luxe velvet butter gold piping and a creamy lime velvet backside. It measures 23 " x just about 22" in size and has a hidden zipper for easy insert of a pillow form. I've included a photo of the chair I was in my design whirlwind of a brain! Such greatness is usually reserved for those with a gazillion dollars...and a bargain for someone who "gets" the value of small sparkly things...diamonds!!
