Tilbury Fabrics was long a English company that operated across the pond...bringing their business to the USA in the mid 1800's where they printed European style prints for the American household...settling in New Hampshire with manufacturing plants along the east coast...North Carolina...with offices expanding in Chicago and Los Angeles by the mid 20th century...evolving from creating historic European textiles to creating a more American-ized fashion that became their lines of thick and nubby barkcloth stamped eloquently with their name...inspiring many a homemaker when it came to decorating and creating a home for their families...Tilbury was a mid range priced textile at the time...sold at fabric stores on most any Main Street of anytown USA...Tilbury joined Waverly and Spectrum Fabrics in a post depression effort to restart the home decor industry...creating colorful...large inspirational prints that were affordable...with designs meant to lift the spirit from the days of the depression...
This offering is for ONE YARD x 48 inches wide of unused unwashed glorious timeless yardage of textured barkcloth. I have 4YDS available being sold by the yard...a deluxe period 30's gray ground with a leafy explosion of fabulousness...in Michelle's book "Fabulous Fabrics of the 20's 30's 40's & 50's" she talks about this pattern in particular being a favorite inspiration for planes...trains and cruise ships of the time...designers incorporating these treasured fabrics into more mainstream modes of travel. Fabric companies always looking to capitalize on it through vacation advertising...whereas tourists see these great fabrics on vacation and have to have them. if you love color like I love color...then this one will not disappoint...a myriad of sunny lemon and chartreuse yellows...candied apple red...bubble gum pink...deep dark bold teal...aqua green...dark chocolate...varied cocoas...with white accents.
