Had you had the glowing fortune to sit inside a Hawaiian kitchen circa 1945...this compote of island fruits just may have been the curtains as you were sipping your Mai Tai. These medium to lighter weight textiles were all the rage...Hawaiians were creating textiles going back to primitive times...but it was the 40's when goods were becoming available from the USA...some 15 years before officially becoming a state in the union. Today little pieces of Hawaiian kitchens are showing up from Oahu to Kansas and everywhere in-between. Some designers using these textiles to create vintage inspired clothing...dresses...jackets with a nod to up cycling vintage.
This offering is for ONE YARD x 44 inches wide...a very fabulous colorful 50's rare piece with a faux wicker/rattan woven design in cocoa.....with Hawaiian fruit compotes filled to the brim with pineapple...bananas...pears...grapes...lemons...limes...and a rare sighting of lychee fruit...a Long Island favorite treat. A fun compilation of color and pattern that creates the most fabulous juxtaposition. Unused...unwashed Hawaiian yardage in mint condition.
