Salesman samples are very valuable...they serve as original testaments to the inception of a design and were some of the first designs off the printing tables to get into the hands of eagerly awaiting designers. Add the incredible rare idea of a fabric being signed and named after the infamous "Monet" and his equally as infamous painting "Poppies". Claude Monet painted The Poppy Field in 1873 on his return from the United Kingdom (in 1871) when he settled in Argenteuil with his family until 1878. It was a time that provided the artist with great fulfillment as a painter, despite the failing health of Camille. It is said the people in the painting are his wife and his son Jean. Monet diluted the contours and constructed a colorful rhythm with blobs of paint starting from a sprinkling of poppies; the disproportionately large patches in the foreground indicate the primacy he put on visual impression. A step towards abstraction had been taken.
This offering is for ONE very large entire width piece of unused unwashed salesman sample. As with most samples it comes with a sewn in sample of another colorway this fabric came in which is sewn on to the back. This piece is signed "Schumachers Poppies by Monet". Edges are all serged as in keeping with how salesman samples were created. It is in mint condition. The colors are stunning...mint green...oranges...lavender...chartreuse...lime...pink and turquoise green. Expect something really sensational.
