The 60's started to show textiles being used as art pieces...I can remember very early on in my childhood dentist office...Dr Silver...not the gentlest guy...but he was innovative in his approach to decorating his minimalist office waiting room...and I just know he had something just like this as a wall hanging...he wasn't the greatest dentist...unlike the others he lacked gadgety little toys as rewards for being well behaved....but he did have great ART! Today Dr Silver joins millions who appreciate the art in fabrics...who see the repeats as framed pieces...the nautical aspects make it so worthy of a large wall to really shine its light.
This offering is for ONE large repeat remnant of a cotton slub weave...has some barkclothy texture...but not typical. Clipper ships and boaters relishing in the sea in a muted colorway of creamy yellow oranges...peachy tones...skin tones...varied chocolates...coffees...a slight taupe gray...with white. It is signed "Cohama Vat Hand Print Windward". There is a very small rod pocket at the top and a tiny hem at the bottom...it appears unused and unwashed and in stellar flawless condition. What a great nautical statement piece. Measures 50 inches wide x 35 inches long.
