Circa 1956 Miami Beach was akin in many ways to every other place in America...where design innovations were space inspired in era divided by skeptics...those anti science...who refused to believe in anything from outer space...who drew comfort from their mundane plaid sofas and basic yellow see through ruffled curtains...nothing to give away that they were any different than anyone else in the coffee klatch...careful to even remotely step outside of that prison of crowd pleasing...but it was those with an eye for science...for space...and evolution of mind and spirit...who read catalogs that excitedly was delivered in the mail...and like most design rebels...visionaries...non conformists...they ran down to Woolworths and bought some yardage to create the most amazing draperies...a reflection of modernism...and the excitement brought on by space and science that even seeped into the design movement.
This offering is for ONE ready to hang drapery panel...I have two available being sold individually...measures 44 inches wide x 68 inches long...a kaleidoscope moving squares pattern on a unheard of pink ground...the clever use of many shades of chartreuse and eggplant really add some FUN and depth...shades of dove gray and charcoal gray...with white accents. A nice heavy cotton...upholstery weight...not barkcloth...but pretty close and a patternry akin to barkcloth. These are fantasically clean...washed...ironed and they have all the feeling of unused old stock. The colors don't look faded and they are pretty close to original. There is a rod pocket at top and one selvedge is hemmed and the other is original selvedge...
