Serendipity! This spectacular barkcloth channeling a 30's 40's pre Martha Stewart and post 1990 Jersey Shore apartment where I first owned this very bolt that I had bought at a store closing of a antique dealer in Asbury Park NJ. I made draperies that paired beautifully with my 1990's sponge painted walls! Ray owned a antique store on Cookman Avenue called Yesterdays Child...Sadly Ray met his demise in that antique store where he also lived in the second floor...with also a 3rd floor walk up storage attic where he had floor to ceiling racks of 30's, 40's and 50's pottery...he squatted for 30 years in that apartment where in Asbury's demise of the late 60's and 70's...urban flight...the landlord skipped out and there was no value in the city ever taking the building as others around it sat in decay boarded up...it was however a very short...but dangerously long walk down the block to the gay bars...Odyssey...Saturn...Archies...Visions and of course the Blue Note...Ray was part of the old gay world of Asbury Park...and earned the beloved nickname by locals as Gay Ray! He survived harrowing times only to die at 72 in his own home for being gay. For decades Ray lived there and continued to run his store until he was murdered in his basement by a fellow he had hired to do work off the street. A month later his sisters quickly came and sold off the contents of the shop...I acquired several barkcloth bolts...along with boxes and boxes of some of the best pottery. I made draperies and sold that bolt at the Ocean Grove Market in 1999...and here today it has made its way back to me in the MOST serendipitous way ever! Ray had an eye like mine...one that was unusual...persnickety with a ode to pops of color...and ode to the weirdos and black sheeps. And while I am not one to believe in much...it is quite a feat that it is back in my hands some 25 year later.

Today I am offering this serendipitous bolt sold by the yard...I have at least 25YDS x 49 inches wide on the bolt. A luxe textured barkcloth...a embodiment of colorful ivy with a abstract sketched like leafy design in aqua green behind the ivy...a crisp and clean white traditional textured barkcloth...asparagus limes...deepest turquoise greens...chartreuse...aqua blue greens...signed "Design Ivy Lace Guaranteed to be Vat Prints". Expect smashingly perfect...the very edges may have some normal discoloration and a faint old down center as expected from being folded on the bolt for the past 75 years.
