5.5YDS Ruth Adler Design "Semaphore" Vintage Fabric Yardage Knoll Bauhaus 1951 Old Stock

$395.00

Ruth Adler has been a pioneer not in defining the modern look of architectural interiors...but also in redefining postwar America's sense of public space...often working with some of the worlds most prominent architects...her work and her influence reach intimately into homes in Southeast Michigan and across the country...where she may not be a recognized name...but has brought the crisp look and feel of the modern design era...you'll discover an artist with an aspiring personal story...a rich body of work...an entrepreneurial spirit and passion of her art that has continued unabated into her late 90's...as a Jewish immigrant who escaped Nazi Germany and launched a influential business in Detroit...as a woman who broke through barriers in a male dominated field...as a Detroiter who helped shape an internationally sensibility her story speaks to the value of inclusiveness...an entrepreneurial spirit and to profound role the arts played in nurturing our souls" see the rest of her honored works here http://kresge.org/sites/default/files/2015-Eminent-Artist-Schnee.pdf

This offering is for ONE YARD x 49 inches wide of this fantastic unused original old stock never washed heavy upholstery canvas...just stored for decades and decades...I have 5YDS sold by the yard... likely the last of this precious stuff on earth...This fabric was inspired and created in 1951...it is named "Semaphore"...which really means signal flags...used mostly in maritime industry...this fabric is a play on all those wonderful shapely flags that were part of our communication system before we technology advanced us to electronic ways to communicate...but certainly around the world there are many who still continue to use this time honored tradition...this fabric is signed brilliantly "Ruth Adler Design for Adler Schnee Associates Semaphore"...what is also extremely notable here is the stamping of the union label...indicating it was made by the revered "Textile Union Workers"...see pics for that iconic and very historically significant stamp...the colors are spectacular for Ruth's application...that uber mid century allure of clean lines and shapely shapes...in a simple and subtle colorway of putty lime...black and creamy white...that's it...just 3 colors...and in those three colors magic was created...please take the time to get to know this wonderful iconic designer...study her and get to know her...she is still alive today at 98 years old...having lived to tell the story of her life...her struggles and her perspective of modern art...
